When I first engaged in the process of selecting the best candidate to be the next leader of the Liberal Party of Canada I, like many others, saw Justin Trudeau as the “natural” winner. During my time as Liberal leader in BC, I worked closely with his father Pierre Trudeau on Constitutional matters. I don’t doubt that Justin Trudeau is a “good” choice for Liberal Leader, and if elected, a “good” choice for a Canadian Prime Minister. Over the course of the leadership campaign, however, I have developed doubts that Trudeau is the right choice for Liberal Leader, and that he would be the best choice for Canada’s next prime minister. I have come to the conclusion for a number of compelling reasons, that Joyce Murray trumps Trudeau as the right leader for the party, and the best choice to defeat Harper.

"I was saddened to learn last week of Marc Garneau's withdrawal from the Liberal Party leadership race. I thank Marc for presenting himself as a candidate and for undergoing the rigours of a national leadership race. He said that he did extensive polling and that the numbers told him he had little chance of winning the leadership race. I respect his analysis and his decision to discontinue his campaign.
